Spotlight shines on Dundeel

It was a golden day for Arrowfield Stud's Dundeel. He sired two impressive Stakes winners on either side of the ditch, and both looked destined for bigger things.

We couldn't be more pleased with our Dundeel colt purchased at the recent Inglis Classic Sale from Newgate Farm.

Out of the speedy Real Saga mare, Stroak, he certainly looks like an astute purchase after a pair of Group 2 winners for his sire today.

He has settled in well at WBF and will be part of our draft for the Inglis Ready2Race sale later this year.

The in-form mare Aquacade put her hand up to be the favourite for the Group 2 Auckland Cup (3200m) with a dominant display in the Group 2 ATR Avondale Cup (2400m) today at Pukekohe.

Trained by Lance Noble, she has now won four of her past five starts.

Regular rider Warren Kennedy was full of praise for his mare and is looking forward to March 11 when she steps out to the two miles for the Cup.

"It all worked out like a dream, and she was magnificent today," Kennedy said.

"I must give credit to Lance Noble as she looked fantastic, she felt fantastic, and she helped me in the race as it is not easy to get across from that wide gate.

"She found the right spot, relaxed nicely, and she turned it on from the 600m to power home for a great win.

"Bring on the 3200m now."

Her trainer was equally impressed.

"That was something a little bit special; I thought," Noble said.

"She won well in lesser company last start and had come on well from that, but to see her do that in a quality field today is just great.

Bred and raced by Cambridge Stud couple Brendan and Jo Lindsay, Aquacade is a daughter of Dundeel and out of Forest Of Seas, a three-quarter sister to Gr.1 St Leger (2800m) runner-up The Last Drop.

Not to be outdone, promising colt Elliptical made a winning return in the Group 2 C S Hayes Stakes (1400m). He returned after an excellent Spring three-year-old campaign that netted two Group 1 placings in the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

Trainer Anthony Freedman, who trains with his son Sam, said it was an impressive display from their colt as they didn't think he was that forward.

"We just wanted him to be strong late, and if we won, that was great. So to get up and do it points to good things," he said after the race.

"I think he toughened up in the spring. He was a bit of a baby, and we ran him in the good race on the last day (Champions Stakes), and it probably toughened him up.

"The (Australian Guineas) is the obvious way to go in two weeks, and then he'll probably head to Sydney and see what he can do there."

Elliptical is raced by a partnership that includes Suman Hedge Bloodstock and Cambridge Stud's Brendan Lindsay and Jo Lindsay who also race Aquacade.

Aquacade and Elliptical were Dundeel's 21st and 22nd Stakes winners, respectively.

WBF Thoroughbreds purchased five colts at the Inglis Classic Sale for our Ready2Race draft. They can be viewed here.
